Women, girls, ladies, the female gender. We have been fighting and we continue to fight. We fight because it is the only way we will be respected— and if not respected, then feared. You hit like a girl, you throw like a girl, you play like a girl. Why are these comments intended as insults when women are superior to men in so many ways? Women are always the victims, the helpless, the needy, the saved; never the saver, never the hero. Why are we looked down upon, labeled as fragile? We can lift heavy boxes, we can wrestle, we can play football, we can install a lightbulb, and we CAN have careers. We can get an education and we can pursue our dreams. Women gave birth to and raised each generation before us, every child in this generation now and will do so for every child for generations to come. Women put up with menstruation and are prone to many cancers and illnesses because of our physical and internal make up. We are fighters. We don't deserve the physical abuse, the insults, the discrimination, the harsh assumptions. We are human. Just because we aren't men does not mean we aren't strong, smart, brave, powerful. We are all of those things and more because we chose to be. We can't let gender, religion, or race define who we are. Women are important and we deserve to be taken off our pedestals. I don't know about you, but I'm not gonna wait around for Prince Charming to rescue me when I have two working hands and a well functioning brain.
